This past month the magazine sponsored a contest on Creative Allies entitled “How Does Music Inspire You?” 12 finalist will have their work on displayed at ReadyMade’s Party and the winning poster will receive a trip for 2 to Austin, TX for the party.

I was very inspired by this contest, not only because of the trip to Austin, but because my work is very inspired by Music. Music and Design go hand in hand for me. I started by doing some research on bands that will be at SXSW and music/style that is commonly associated with Austin, TX. From there I created these posters

I’ve recently become very interested in learning more and experimenting with kinetic typography. What kinetic typography means is the mixture of motion and text, like beginning credits in movies or TV shows. For those of you who are unfamiliar with kinetic typography here are some of my favorite examples.

1. Kyle Coopers Opening Credits for seven. A beautifully disturbing way to introduce the film

2. I love this one. It takes a memorable part of the movie and gives it a new spin. Even if you had never seen this movie, you know exactly what is going on because of the way this person displays the type

http://www.jarrattmoody.com/

3. This is one of the coolest projects I’ve seen come out of SCAD

Motion graphics is something I will I became more interested in while at SCAD. I admire a lot of the work I have seen come out of the Motion graphics department. My summer goal is to create a few kinetic typography projects. I’ll be sure to update my progress.

I put together these pages as a way to organize my process for the project letterforms. The project takes the imagination of where letters come from. Each spread opens up a new place of where letters came from and how some letters got their shape. The project is styled as a collage using many textures and images. I want the reader to be looking at these images and textures and find their own letterforms while they are going through the book. Kind of the same idea as where’s waldo, just a little more imagination
